What it is. Boswellia serrata resin — commonly known as frankincense — has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Modern research has identified boswellic acids, particularly AKBA, as the active anti-inflammatory compounds.
What it does. AKBA selectively inhibits 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) — the enzyme responsible for synthesizing leukotrienes, a class of potent pro-inflammatory molecules. Unlike NSAIDs, Boswellia does not inhibit COX enzymes and therefore does not carry the same gastrointestinal risks.
Why we include it. Boswellia provides targeted 5-LOX inhibition — addressing leukotriene-mediated inflammation through a mechanism distinct from conventional anti-inflammatory approaches.
What it is. Quercetin is one of the most abundant flavonoids in the diet with potent anti-inflammatory properties targeting multiple inflammatory pathways.
What it does. Quercetin inhibits NF-κB — the master transcription factor that controls the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules. It also stabilizes mast cells and has antioxidant properties.
