The macula, the small central region responsible for sharp, detailed vision, depends on a dense layer of protective carotenoids that must be continuously replenished through diet or supplementation.
This formula provides those carotenoids in their most bioavailable forms, alongside DHA — the dominant fatty acid in retinal membranes — and vitamin A, the raw material for rhodopsin, the light-sensing pigment in photoreceptor cells.

Ingredient Deep Dive
What it is. Lutein is a xanthophyll carotenoid found in dark leafy greens. Unlike beta-carotene, it is not converted to vitamin A. Instead, it serves a specialized structural and protective function in the eye.
What it does. Lutein selectively accumulates in the macula where it forms the macular pigment optical density (MPOD) layer — acting as a natural blue-light filter and antioxidant shield, protecting photoreceptor cells from oxidative damage caused by light exposure.
Why we include it. Lutein is central to macular protection. Higher MPOD density is associated with better visual acuity and contrast sensitivity — and maintaining it requires consistent dietary or supplemental intake.
What it is. Vitamin A is essential for vision — it is the precursor to retinal, the light-sensitive molecule in photoreceptor cells. The retina contains the highest concentration of vitamin A in the body.
What it does. Vitamin A is converted to 11-cis-retinal, which combines with opsin proteins to form rhodopsin (in rods) and photopsins (in cones) — the visual pigments that detect light. Without adequate vitamin A, night vision deteriorates first, followed by progressive vision impairment.
Why we include it. Vitamin A provides the raw material for visual pigment synthesis — ensuring the photoreceptors have the substrate needed to detect and respond to light.
What it is. DHA is the dominant fatty acid in retinal photoreceptor membranes — comprising up to 60% of the polyunsaturated fatty acids in the outer segments of rods and cones.
What it does. DHA maintains the membrane fluidity required for the rapid conformational changes of rhodopsin during phototransduction. It also supports retinal cell survival and has anti-inflammatory properties that protect against age-related retinal changes.
Why we include it. DHA is structurally essential for photoreceptor function — the retina has the highest DHA concentration of any tissue in the body, reflecting its critical importance to vision.
What it is. EPA is an omega-3 fatty acid with potent anti-inflammatory properties that support ocular health and protect against inflammatory processes in the eye.
What it does. EPA reduces inflammatory signaling in ocular tissues and supports healthy tear film production. It also provides precursors for specialized pro-resolving mediators that actively resolve inflammation in the eye.
Why we include it. EPA supports ocular surface health and protects retinal tissue from inflammatory damage — complementing DHA's structural role with targeted anti-inflammatory support.
